To mark the 30th anniversary of the death of the Brazilian driver, who died on May 1, 1994 following an accident on the Imola track, a number of events and tributes will take place during the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.
In this respect, Pierre has already driven the Toleman TG183 (Senna's 1st single-seater) at Silverstone as part of a film shoot, the first images of which are due to be broadcast alongside the F1 Grand Prix in Imola.
Before arriving in Italy for the seventh round of the F1 World Championship, the French driver unveiled on social networks the tribute helmet he will be wearing throughout the weekend at Imola, a true replica (apart from the sponsors) of Ayrton Senna's mythical yellow and green helmet.
“I'm going to pay tribute to one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time at Imola, one of my idols. I'll be wearing a special Senna helmet to remember Ayrton's legacy,” Pierre wrote on his social networks.
“He has been a huge source of inspiration since my early days of karting and I had the privilege of driving his very first F1 car at Silverstone a few days ago.”
“It was an incredible experience and feeling to sit in his car with that special helmet. It was such a unique feeling to see that it was at the time just a man and his machine. A feeling and a day I won't forget. Thanks to everyone who made it possible again. The next race will be special.”
At the end of the race weekend in Imola, the tribute helmet will be auctioned by F1 Authentics and the money raised will go to the Ayrton Senna Institute to support children's education in Brazil. Below is a presentation of the tribute helmet:
