The Baku Grand Prix marked the strongest weekend of Pierre's season, with excellent results from the start of the weekend and an incredible podium finish.
Very competitive since the first free practice (6th and 5th), Pierre Gasly was the man in FP3, where he was the fastest on track. Pierre confirmed the remarkable pace of his AlphaTauri on the urban circuit of Baku during an eventful qualifying session. Pierre Gasly, who was fast and faultless in his trajectories, took fourth place and equalled the best result of his career in this exercise.
"Honestly, it's been a pretty incredible day. When I finished top of FP3, I was really excited before qualifying. The pace was clearly there today, and we felt strong, we pushed all weekend and I really clicked with the car here in Baku.I'm really pleased with our qualifying performance, I think at the end we were still in a position to fight our way to the front, but P4 is good and the margins for the front row were so tight. It was a fantastic effort from the whole team, and I think we can be very proud of the progress we're making."
In the opening laps Pierre gave up one position and held onto 5th place before his pit stop. With a good strategy, Pierre undercut Charles Leclerc and had a quiet race until the red flag.
Fourth before the race restarted, he was able to take advantage of Lewis Hamilton's mistake and, above all, put up incredible resistance to the pressure from Charles Leclerc's Ferrari to claim a deserved podium: "We had to show our muscle and show the other driver that we weren't going to give up. I knew that the last few laps were going to be very difficult, but I had to go all the way. It's great to be in this position after a long weekend. These are very important points for us. The Frenchman drove a faultless race, taking advantage of the incidents of the other drivers and the race neutralisations to climb back up to 3rd position at the last restart.
